KNYSNA to CAPE TOWN – Road Bike Adventure

We start this unforgettable road bike adventure in Knysna in the heart of the world famous Garden Route, traverse the Outeniqua Mountain Range follow Route 62 along the Klein Karoo all the way to Franschoek and then finish in Cape Town. We will be riding our bikes for 6 days, covering about 630km from Knysna to Oudtshoorn, Ladismith, Barrydale, Robertson, Franschoek and then Cape Town.
Our route takes in some spectacular scenery while we experience warm South African hospitality, great food and wine with an exciting in depth visit to a producing wine farm. We also have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the biggest bird in the world, the ostriches of the Oudtshoorn area.

OUR ITINERARY – APRIL 2019
FRIDAY THE 26TH – OVERNIGHT FLIGHT FROM EUROPE TO CAPE TOWN
SATURDAY THE 27TH – ARRIVE CAPE TOWN AND SETTLE INTO ACCOMMODATION
We meet you at Cape Town international Airport and transfer to our accommodation in Cape Town.
On arrival and after we have settled into our accommodation, we go for dinner while enjoying the view over the Atlantic Ocean. We will use our time together during dinner to get an overview of our riding, and other plans for the week to come.

SUNDAY 28TH – FLIGHT TO THE GARDEN ROUTE
After breakfast and depending on our exact flight times, we transfer to the Cape Town International airport for a short flight to George and then transfer to Knysna (about an hours drive from the airport in George). Our bikes will be waiting for us at our accommodation as we have a seperate transfer by road for them from Cape Town, this means you do not have to fly with your bike again.
Depending on our arrival time, we will have the opportunity to go for a quick ride to make sure that our bikes and we are in perfect working order for what lays ahead in the week to come.
MONDAY 29TH – KNYSNA TO OUDTSHOORN
Our first ride, and we start of with quite a spectacularly contrasting one. Starting in Knysna, we take in the Garden Route and after reaching George we head inland over the Quteniqua mountains to the Klein Karoo and Oudsthoorn where overnight. All going according to plan, we should be in Oudsthoorn around lunch.
After lunch we have a bit of relaxing time before we head off to visit one of the local Ostritch farms to get close and see what this huge industry is all about. We enjoy a nice early dinner and brief discussion about our route for tomorrow!

TUESDAY 30TH – OUDTSHOORN TO LADISMITH
Start of Route 62, riding through Calitzdorp then over Paardenberg pass to our accommodation on a guest farm just outside Ladismith. Stopping off for a coffee and snack on the farmstall just outside Calitzdorp before we start on Paardenberg pass with some amazing sandstone formation and contrasting views along the way.
Our accommodation is a relaxed, comfortable and well appointed guest farm where we have the opportunity to relax during the afternoon before a traditional South African braai (barbeque) and African cuisine.

WEDNESDAY 1ST OF MAY – LADISMITH TO BARRYDALE
Our ride today is quite short, allowing us the opportunity for an early lunch . Along the way we have a quick coffee stop at Ronnies Sex Shop (http://www.ronniessexshop.co.za) – a bar in the middle of nowhere which has become quite famous and a must stop along the way.
On arrival in Barrydale we enjoy lunch, settle into our accommodation and enjoy a relaxing rest of the afternoon exploring the local art galleries, craft shops, Barrydale cellars and other interesting shops in this quaint village.

THURSDAY 2ND – BARRYDALE TO ROBERTSON
Rolling hills and towards Montaque for lunch before we head off to Robertson where we overnight in luxury. We are now in the Robertson winelands area and some great wines are being produced in this area, we’ll definately have the opportunity to sample and enjoy some during dinner.

FRIDAY 3RD – ROBERTSON TO FRANSCHOEK
Our route takes us close to Worchester before we turn left to go past the Brandvlei dam, stop for some tea and scones in Villiersdorp and then towards the famous Franschoek pass while passing the Theewaterskloof dam on our left – one of the main resevoirs for water supply for the Cape Town region.
We end our ride at one of the local restaurants for lunch before we settle into our accommodation and have a well earned rest. As we are in the Cape Winelands area, we head off to a private wine tasting followed by dinner on one of the top local wine farms.

SATURDAY 4TH  – CAPE PENINSULA ROUTE FROM CAPE TOWN
After breakfast we transfer to Cape Town for a ride from the Atlantic seaboard side of Table Mountain, taking in famous raiding spots like Suikerbossie, Chapmanspeak Misty Cliffs, Smitswinkel, Kalkbay where we definately stop for a coffee and Simonstown (watch out for the penguins). On the way we go into the Cape Point Nature reserve for a view of Falsebay and the open sea also known as the Cape of Storms.
Our ride today also includes a visit to Klein Constantia Wine Estate for a closer look at how things are done here. It’s amazing to think that we are in the middle of the most populated area in the Western Cape when we are standing in the middle of the Constantia winelands area – a very special place!

SUNDAY 5TH – LAST RIDE AND BACK TO CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Depending on your travel plans we intend to go for one last coffee ride before we take you back to the airport to be in time for your flight home – or continue with the rest of your holiday in South Africa.
We are able to assist you with these arrangements and provide you with all the relevant advise and information to make it the best possible time. If you need help with this, please let us know when you complete the form to reserve your spot for this tour.,
