SUNDAY THE 3RD TO MONDAY THE 11TH OF MARCH 2019 (9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS)

Cape Town will be fully immerged in bicycle fever that grips South Africa and the Western Cape particularly, from the end of February till the end of March every year! Events like the CTCT MTB Challenge (part of this tour), the UCI Mountainbike World Cup, the Cape Town Cycle Tour (the biggest timed event in the world) and the world-famous ABSA Cape Epic will take place during this time! People from all over the world visit the Cape Town region during this time and the atmosphere is unforgettable.
The great accommodation we will be using during this time combined with our intimate local knowledge of the best riding routes, coffee shops, restaurants and wine estates will ensure that this is a tour that you will be talking about for years to come!

CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR

Cape Town Cycle Tour is now one of the world’s leading cycling events and has earned the accolade as the most beautiful bike race in the world. We join 35000 other cyclist to cover the route of about 108km with 1150m of altitude gain starting and finishing in the shadow of Table Mountain, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. This being the biggest timed event in the world it means that we have full road closures with thousands of spectators lining the roads all the way.

OUR ITINERARY MARCH 2019

SATURDAY THE 29th of FEBRUARY – OVERNIGHT FLIGHT FROM EUROPE TO CAPE TOWN
SUNDAY 1st of MARCH – ARRIVE CAPE TOWN AND SETTLE INTO ACCOMMODATION
We meet you at Cape Town international Airport late in the afternoon, early evening – depending on your flight details. When all are there we transfer to our accommodation which is about 40min to an hour away – depending on the traffic….
On arrival and after we have settled into our accommodation, we assemble our bikes. We will have all the relevant tools and support there to make sure this is a pleasant and quick process! Time permitting, we then go and test the bikes just to make sure all is in 100% working order for the week ahead.

MONDAY 4TH – WINELANDS LOOP

Today we ride from our hotel and do a relatively flat loop of about 80km in the winelands finishing off with a wine tasting experience and tour of the facilities of the estate and gourmet. After lunch we head back to the hotel to shower and freshen up.
Relax during the afternoon before we go for dinner.

TUESDAY 5TH – FRANSCHOEK PASS TO GRABOUW AND BACK

Today’s ride is a there and back affair over Franschoek Pass, along the Theewaterskloof dam to Grabouw and back. Theewaterskloof dam is the main reservoir for water supply for the Cape Town region. Again, we ride from and back to the hotel and enjoy lunch along the way, in Grabouw.
Total riding about 110km with 1750m of altitude gain.

WEDNESDAY 6TH – GORDONSBAY TO HERMANUS
The coastal road between Gordonsbay and Hermanus is known as one of the most scenic routes around. We enjoy this ride of about 85km with 650m of altitude gain to finish off in Hermanus. After breakfast the bus will take us to Gordonsbay and pick us and the bikes up again after lunch in Hermanus.
Hermanus is known as the whale watching capital of South Africa. Even though we are not going to be there during peak whale watching season, the Brydes and Humpback whales are still in the bay and there is always a chance to spot them. Our lunch spot for the day gives us the best opportunity to spot any whales that might be out there in the bay, as we will be sitting right next to the water – picture to the right.

THURSDAY 7TH – BAINSKLOOF FROM WELLINGTON
Our route today takes us from Wellington in a northerly direction and then back over Bainskloof pass to finish at the start point Wellington. Bainskloof is

FRIDAY 8TH – CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR REGISTRATION AND CHAPMANSPEAK RIDE
We take bus and transfer to Greenpoint Stadium to pick up our numbers and complete registration for the Cape Town Cycle Tour taking place on Sunday. We take our bikes and cycling clothes with so that we are able to  change there get on our bikes and do a ride along the coast underneath the Twelve Apostles towards Chapmanspeak (part of the CTCT route on Sunday). We carry on towards the Constantia Winelands area for a visit to one of the estates where we enjoy some refreshment before we head on back to the bus in Cape Town.
Total riding for today is about 85km with 1500m of altitude gain.
SATURDAY 9TH – EASY SHORT SPIN IN THE WINELANDS
This morning we have a leisurely breakfast before we do a loop in the winelands. The idea is to relax a bit and recover the legs for the CTCT tomorrow, the bikes are being packed for our early departure to the start of the CTCT in Cape Town tomorrow morning.
Afternoon relaxing and then off to dinner.
SUNDAY 10TH  – CAPE TOWN CYCLE TOUR
Today we head down to Cape Town very early, to be in time for our bunch start. Breakfast is therefor served early.
The 108km route with breathtaking scenery, loads of spectators, 35000 other cyclists and festivities after the event makes this an experience to savor.
We all meet up after the event to go and enjoy a well earned lunch.
Lunch for today is include in the package.
MONDAY 11TH – LAST RIDE AND BACK TO CAPE TOWN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Depending on your travel plans we intend to go for one last coffee ride before we take you back to the airport to be in time for your flight home.

As this tour and our Cape Town road bike tour runs back to back, we offer a 10% discount on the combined cost of the 2 tours should you decide to stay with us for the full 2 weeks. We will endeavor to assist you to find a suitable rental bike so that you do not have to travel with 2 bikes!
